"The Taming of the Shrew" Les Ballets de Monte Carlo
A large-format ballet created by Jean-Christophe Maillot in 2014 for the Bolshoi Theatre Ballet, "La Mégère apprivoisée" received no less than 3 Masques d'Or (Best Choreographic Show, Best Female Role, Best Male Role).
"While "La Mégère apprivoisée" is full of humour and irony, the ballet's theme is a very serious one: the search for the other half. In a world where conventions leave little room for authenticity, finding that other half is no easy task, and Shakespeare's play remains relevant today. Putting a distance between the macho dominance within the couple, Jean-Christophe Maillot focuses on what is vital in the love relationship. "La Mégère apprivoisée" conveys the idea that everyone can find his or her half, regardless of character. Who can tell in love which lovers are the best match? These things are mysterious and it is not for us to judge them."
