Market Screening ‘Seven Gates of Jerusalem’
PRESENTED BY LES FILMS FIGURES LIBRES, CZECH TELEVISION AND SPRING PRAGUE FESTIVAL
The Seventh Symphony “Seven gates of Jerusalem” is of remarkable scope. It bears witness to an introspective thought about faith, based on texts of the Book of Psalms by David, the Old Testament. This work for soloists, choir and orchestra, composed in honor of the city of Jerusalem, evokes an oratorio. For expressive purposes, Penderecki uses specific instruments: tubaphone, percussive objects he designed, and the shofar, an ancient Jewish liturgical instrument.
