The Avant Première 2024 Sujet is presented by Unitel and Czech Television.

"MESSIAH"

In the heart of the historic baroque garden in Český Krumlov, a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, the vibrant essence of Messiah unfolds amid a captivating interplay of light and shadow. This production skillfully weaves the biblical narrative of Jesus Christ with the life of Josef Adam, Duke of Krumlov and Prince of Schwarzenberg, born in 1722. Evoking the grandeur of the Baroque era, the performance unfolds as a lavish feast, featuring esteemed early music soloists and a choir of one hundred and fifty, all adorned in meticulously crafted replicas of Baroque attire. Set against the backdrop of a truly unique venue, the theater with a rotating auditorium in Český Krumlov stands as one of only two of its kind in Europe. Nestled in the Baroque garden of the chateau, just before the rococo Bellarie Palace, this theatrical marvel was inaugurated in 1958 and, following several renovations, presently accommodates nearly 650 spectators. Garnering immense popularity, with 56,000 tickets sold, these performances mark the most attended summer cultural event in the entire Czech Republic. As a result, they attract keen interest from both domestic and international audiences alike.
