‘The Bear in Jukkasjärvi’
Presented by SVT – Swedish Television
The fearless creditor Smirinov is outwited by the unscrupulous beautiful Popova. In minus 30 degrees celsius both combatants show their strengths and weaknesses in the classical drama written by Anton Tchechov. Performed in constant minus degrees, the witty music by William Walton brings the words alive, words in the authenic Scandinavian minority languages Sami and Meänkieli. An intense short opera performed directly for the camera, ‚The Bear in Jukkasjärvi’ addresses a broader audience. The 45-minute show is performed in the grand hall at the Icehotel with the lit ice as stunning scenography and includes a short introduction to the unique Nordic project.
