Market Screening ‘ The Strangest of Angels’
Presented by Poorhouse International and the New Zealand Embassy to Germany
This chamber opera is a collaboration between New Zealand writer Georgia Jamieson Emms, composer Kenneth Young and Soprano Anna Leese and was shot on location by Rebecca Tansley using sing-back technique.
The story is based on an episode in the life of writer Janet Frame, who was wrongly diagnosed with schizophrenia and spent years locked up in an asylum.
Composer Kenneth Young conducts an ensemble of Christchurch Symphony Orchestra members and singers Jane Tankersley (as Janet Frame) and Anna Lees (as the fictional nurse Katherine).
Rebecca Tansley will be present for the screening, alongside his Excellency Craig John Hawke, New Zealand's Ambassador to Germany. New Zealand wine will be served at the subsequent reception, courtesy of the Embassy.
