
THE JURY
All films submitted for the 17th edition of InShadow in partnership with dancescreen were assessed by an expert jury, selected by both the IMZ and our festival partner, InShadow. The IMZ drew on its large international expert's network, appointing authorities in filmmaking, broadcasting and the media as well as acclaimed choreographers and dancers. Get to know them below!

Daniel Gorjão
Cultural Programmer, Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP)
Daniel Gorjão is a Portuguese theatre director, actor, and performing arts programmer. He began his career at Teatro Politeama under Filipe La Féria and later founded Teatro do Vão, where he explores contemporary themes through innovative productions like Tudo sobre a minha mãe and O Lago dos Cisnes. Since 2016, he has served as Head of Performing Arts at RTP2, contributing to Portugal's cultural landscape through television and theatre.
Christiane Hartter
Researcher, German Dance Archive Cologne
Christiane Hartter studied Theatre, Film, and Television Studies. She worked in the archives of ZDF in Moscow as well as in the Theatre Studies Collection in Cologne. Additionally, she assisted in Sasha Waltz productions in Moscow and Berlin and accompanied a tour in Siberia. Since 1999, she has been a research assistant at the German Dance Archive Cologne, where she manages the film collection, curates international dance film programs—often in collaboration with the Goethe-Institute—and organizes film contributions for exhibitions at the Dance Museum.
Sofia Soromenho
Researcher & Dance Critic
Dance critic, movement director and researcher at INET-md, with a solid career in the performing arts and a particular focus on contemporary dance. PhD at the FMH – Universidade de Lisboa, she is conducting research funded by FCT that proposes the creation of a Museum of Contemporary Dance in Portugal. Critic for Jornal de Letras since 2013, she has collaborated with companies and artists, combining practice, memory and critical reflection. She was also a lecturer in higher education, where taught and supervised artistic creation processes.

Mafalda Almeida
Producer, Galope Films
Mafalda Almeida is a Lisbon-based producer specializing in documentary films and TV series, with a particular focus on cultural and artistic subjects. Her most recent projects include the feature documentaries “Sum of the Parts” (2023) and “Coro” (2024).
Thomas Freundlich
Director, Lumikinos Production
Thomas Freundlich is an acclaimed dance filmmaker and one of Finland’s most awarded short film directors. A former choreographer and dancer, he creates dance shorts, documentaries, multi-camera productions, and projection designs. His work has been shown at over 350 festivals and broadcast on Arte, Yle, SVT, and more. His short Cold Storage (2016) won 44 awards and was Finland’s most screened short film (2017–2019).
Kathleen Smith
Filmmaker & Curator
Toronto-based writer, filmmaker and curator interested in performance, culture and technology. In 1992, she co-founded the Moving Pictures Festival of Dance on Film and Video, directing and programming for 15 years with an international touring program. She has curated screen dance for festivals in Brighton, Paris, Montreal, Calgary and Düsseldorf, and serves on the Canadian dance archive Collection Regards Hybrides. She curates for dance: made in Canada, teaches at York University, and creates award-winning films presented worldwide.
