Online Preparation Module

The course will feature an online component (two half days). At the end of the online course each student will be allotted the work they will direct and will produce a camera script to be submitted to their allocated faculty mentor and on which they will receive feedback and notes prior to arriving at the RCM.

14.30 - 15.00 Welcome from RCM & IMZ
15.00 - 15.30 Tour of the control room and Britten Theatre to view the set-up and camera positions.
15.45 - 16.00 Break
16.00 - 17.00 Briefing and Q&A on the week’s production process, gallery procedures, etc.
Friday, 03 July
10.00 - 11.00 Meeting with the Stage Director and/or composers.
11.00 - 11.15 Break
11.15 - 12.30 Lecture
12.30 - 13.30 Lunch
13.30 - 17.00 Dry-run pre-set rehearsal with camera operators in the gallery for all directors and each opera.
17.00 - 18.30 Dinner break
18.30 - 19.00 Talkback and tech checks for the first performance.
19.00 - 21.30 Opera Performances 1- All directors rehearse their camera scripts.
Saturday, 04 July
09.00 - 10.00 Notes on the previous night’s performance: key learnings and guidance on implementing changes.
10.00 - 12.30 Each participant works on their camera script and does changes. Faculty on hand in case of queries.
12.30 - 13.30 Lunch
13.30 - 16.00 Students pass on camera script changes to Script Supervisors.
16.00 - 17.45 Camera notes and changes are given to the camera operators. This slot gives students the chance to talk briefly to cameras operators and check that everything is clear.
17.45 - 18.40 Dinner break
18.40 - 19.00 Talkback and tech checks for second performance.
19.00 - 21.30 Opera Performances 2 – All directors
Sunday, 05 July
09.30 - 12.30 Peer review of the previous night’s performance. Comments and general discussion.
12.30 - 13.00 Faculty final feedback + thoughts for the future
13.00 - 13.30 Evaluation + Closing
