Salzburg Festival: The Gambler + Upcoming

Peter Sellars’ production of Prokofiev’s The Gambler is front-loaded with a post-apocalyptic sci-fi aesthetic and still manages to be as relevant as ever: the debauched “Roulettenburg” acts as a mirror of our own money-obsessed society. Experience the highlights of this poignant production featuring soprano superstar Asmik Grigorian and tenor Sean Panikkar. The New York Times called their pairing in The Gambler “a highlight of the Salzburg Festival” and praised Panikkar as one of this year’s breakouts: “he was ferocious (…) superhuman and mesmerizing”. Joining the screening is stage and video director Peter Sellars, who will give insights into his unique directorial visions.

Looking ahead, we are pleased to welcome artistic director of the Salzburg Festival, Markus Hinterhäuser, who will present highlights of the upcoming 2025 Festival.
