Ephemerals – Amaro Freitas 

Ephemerals is an audiovisual project by Selo Sesc that features performances by Brazilian artists in Sesc SP venues. In this episode, pianist Amaro Freitas performs at Sesc Pompeia presenting selected pieces conceived as a tribute to the Amazon Rainforest and the rivers that flow through northern Brazil.  

Sesc Jazz - Dom Salvador & Amaro Freitas

A session with two leading figures of creativity and ancestry: Dom Salvador, whose essential work in the 1960s and 1970s helped shape samba-jazz through groups such as Rio65Trio and Abolição; and Amaro Freitas, who challenges the conventional language of the piano with sounds inspired by Brazil’s fauna, lora, and folklore. 

When we become one – Mestre Ambrósio

Born in Recife, state of Pernambuco, Brazil, in the 90s, Mestre Ambrósio transformed Northeastern Brazilian folk culture into an universal language, weaving together rabeca, maracatu, forró, and coco with the experimental spirit of manguebeat. “When WeBecome One” reveals how the group gave meaning to popular culture, bringing traditional rhythms to stages around the world.
