In this opening keynote, Jean Philip De Tender will take a closer look at the current landscape – where the challenges for public service media and performing arts are great. Disruption with the arrival of big tech has fragmented markets, reduced revenues and changed audience behaviors for good. There are, however, some exciting innovations based on collaboration and a growing understanding that by leveraging digital approaches, new audiences can be cultivated.

Jean Philip De Tender joined the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Geneva as Media Director in 2015 and became Deputy Director General in 2021, overseeing EBU Strategy Services and Media. Previously, he spent 25 years at VRT, the Flemish public broadcaster, beginning his career as a journalist in television and radio before moving into programme management across genres including fiction, entertainment and current affairs.
